Five (5) Hour Tour Itinerary

Our 5 hour tour will include stops at the highlighted sites listed below with time to enjoy and take photographs.

(1) Signal Hill National Park - This historic site celebrates the rich communications and military history of Signal Hill and sits amidst a spectacular view of St. Johnís and the sea. Signal Hill was the reception point of the first transatlantic wireless signal by Guglielmo Marconi in 1901, as well as the site of harbor defenses for St. Johnís from the 18th century to the second World War.

Close to Signal Hill you will visit Quidi Vidi- a quaint 17th century fishing village nestled in the heart of St. Johnís. Quidi Vidi Brewery and Mallard Cottage (oldest wooden house with antiques and collectibles inside) are both a must to see.

The Battery boasts narrow streets where you will see houses actually built into the rocks and a spectacular view of the harbor. Itís O.K. if you hold your breath as we squeeze between the houses. This is where we can take you to where the buses canít. (Groups of six or less.)

(2) Cape Spear National Park.- The oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland is situated at Cape Spear along with the Most Easterly point of land in North America. Visit where the sun rises first. The visitor center contains exhibits on the history of lighthouses and the tradition of light keeping. See how a light keeper and his family might have lived in the mid 19th century. Bring your binoculars to see the whales and/or icebergs that frequent this area (in season).

A brief excursion from Cape Spear along route 11through Maddox Cove brings you to another fishing village of Petty Harbor. Donít forget to ask the guide about a movie filmed here. Have your camera ready!

You will visit a local supermarket where the super stores don't exist. You will see local foods on display such as moose, caribou, rabbits, cod tongues, etc. This supermarket is owned by a local family who had a fish plant in the area. It also houses a small restaurant and craft/gift shop and liquor store for your convenience. We will also visit historic Buildings such as the Roman Catholic Basilica of St. John the Baptist, The Courthouse, the Government House, The Anglican Cathedral etc.

Water St. which is the oldest street in North America runs parallel with Harbor Drive where your ship will be docked. Water St. has many shops , restaurants and businesses you can explore on foot if you like before returning to your ship or we can drop you off at your ship.
